Post 186 Election & Nomination Rules

Welcome to the Post 186 Election Information Page

As an active and engaged membership, our Post thrives on strong leadership and participation. The annual election process ensures that our officers and Executive Board members represent the interests of our Legionnaires while upholding the mission of The American Legion. Below, you’ll find important details about the nomination process, election procedures, and how to cast your vote. Whether you’re considering running for office or simply want to make your voice heard, we encourage all eligible members to take part in this essential process.

Election & Nominating Committee

The Election & Nominating Committee (E&N Committee) oversees the election process and consists of at least two Legionnaires in good standing who are not running for office. For the 2025 election, the committee members are:

  • Donna Rojas - E&N Chair
  • Keith Hines
  • Frank Ruggiero

Elected Positions

The following positions will be elected by ballot:

  • Commander
  • 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Vice Commanders
  • Finance Officer
  • PR/Historian
  • Sergeant-at-Arms
  • Chaplain
  • Seven (7) Executive Board Members
  • Three (3) House Committee Members

Key Election Dates & Guidelines

  • Nominations will open in early March 2025 and will close at the regular membership meeting prior to Election Day.
  • All candidates must be verified members of Post 186 with qualifying military service.
  • Write-in votes are not permitted.
  • The 2025 election will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Post 186.

Absentee Voting

Members may request an absentee ballot beginning in early March 2025.

  • Ballots must be requested in person or by mail (phone requests are not accepted).
  • Completed absentee ballots must be returned by 7:00 PM on Election Day.
  • To maintain anonymity, ballots must be submitted using two envelopes.
  • The Election & Nominating Committee will verify all ballots and prevent duplicate voting.

Election Integrity

Any attempt to vote multiple times or manipulate the election process will result in disciplinary action by the Executive Board.
