As the year comes to a close, our membership is at approximately 94%  - which is a pretty good number considering the state of the economy and the members who have gone to post everlasting this past year.  I would like to thank each and every one of you for paying your dues in a timely fashion.  And to those of you who have still not paid - please get your 2011 dues to the Post so that you will not lose a service year!  And the good news is, we have voted NOT to increase the dues for 2012 !

For God and Country,

George Fitz Hudock

Ok, The Four Chaplains was a great success.  Our Color Guard as always was a credit to our Post. Our Commander did a good job reading the Saga.

I  hope next year will be even better. I am in NEED of more than one person to do some letter typing for me, Please call me if you  care to help.  Thanks to Conrad, Bruce, Matt Peters , Bob Hamburger and as always John Rakucewicz. There are many more to thank but I don't have the room. I will need help with the POST EVERLASTING Ceremony,  a day to remember our  members and friends who have gone on to Post Everlasting during this last year.  Ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. on 22 of May at the Post.

I am still looking for Veterans who would like to appear on TV or WWJB radio.  This is a boost for the Post. You can call me or phone Bill Pierson or Robert Rogoski at

Yesterday, I was taken by surprise at the County Board Of Commissioners when I was called to the podium to receive Resolution 2011-54 SECTION 1. The Board of County Commissioners hereby express their appreciation of Chaplain Charles Haig and honors his commitment to our veterans of the Armed Forces and their families, ADOPTED in Regular Session this 12th day of April, 2011, A. The Robins and geese have headed north, which means the "snowbirds" are too.  Spring is here, and summer is just around the corner.  I would like to take a moment to thank everyone for all their support this past year.  This will be my final article for this year, as elections of new officers are only a couple months away.  It has been very trying at times, but overall, it has been a good year.  I have learned a lot this past year, and I have met many new people during my tenure as second vice, and have done my best to accommodate everyone.  I know I can never please everyone all the time,  but I spent this past year trying to bring the Legion back together as a family.  It started out slow, but as the year progressed, dinner and band attendance did pick up.  There were several new ideas I tried, some of which worked out and some that didn't, but that is to be expected.

We have two more months of karaoke and entertainment left before my term is done.  As our snowbirds head north, I would love to see more of our members that stay behind come out to support your post.  Look for the return of The Dukes, The Keynotes, Nikki Moore, and several other good bands over the next two months. Be sure to check out the calendar, as well as the post bulletin board for schedules.  There are also several more dinners planned.  Also, don't forget to read the Commander's email for updates and reminders.  Come out and sing or dance, or just have a good time with your friends.  A final thought as we get ready to enjoy the beautiful beaches here in Florida.  To all of you heading north, have a safe and wonderful summer, and we look forward to seeing all of you in the fall.  As always, any comments or  suggestions are always welcome.  It doesn't matter if they are positive or negative.  This is your Post and I was elected to serve you.

 For God and Country,

 Bruce Carl.

On 10 March 2011, your Color Guard participated in the ceremony naming our Post the Charles E.  Murray American Legion Post 186.  The St. Patrick’s Day Dinner was a great success thanks to the teamwork of our unit.  Great job men.  On 12 April 2011, Color Guard, Post and District Chaplain Charles Haig was presented the “Four Chaplains Legion of Honor Award at the Brooksville Courthouse by the County Commissioners.  On 30 May 2011, at 9:30 a.m. we will present the Colors at the Memorial Day Ceremony at Aripeka Cemetery.    There will be burgers and franks at noon.  Also High Point has invited us to present the Colors at their Memorial Day Ceremony at 11:00 a.m.

For God and Country,

Jimmy Schultz

Well I am sad to say we will miss all of our snowbirds - wishing you all a good summer and hurry back!  The kitchen has a brand new staff - new cook and all!  Please come have lunch at your friendly Post and let them serve you with a smile!  For the summer

bikes, good bands, and Pastor Rick sells a fantastic barbecue chicken dinner for 5 dollars. Be prepared to stand in line though, because the dinner is hugely popular. We followed the stop at “the Hollow” with a very scenic ride through Citrus County over to the Shed (are you seeing a pattern?).

We had other rides to various locations during the past two months, and have enjoyed great travels and good fellowship, with everyone arriving home safely.

Well, my personal high point has been the Chicken Marsala dinner on March 26th.  I have to admit some trepidation on my part. I haven’t prepared a meal for so many people since I was a chef over 30 years ago.  Also, I have never made Chicken Marsala in my life!  Thanks to a great recipe from Annie, and the help of my fellow riders, especially Mark and Donnie in the kitchen, I believe I can declare my first dinner at the Post a success. My sincere thanks to everyone who turned out and all those who helped.  I hoped you all enjoyed the chowder as well. There was a lot left over, and I believe it was served at the canteen the following week.

Our dinner was followed up with Bingo on the 29th.  Thanks once more to all the players who attended and the riders who put it on.  We appreciate your support for all of our fundraising activities.

On that note, I will be joining the Post 80, Kissimmee riders in May for the annual Mother’s Day run to Greenville, NC, just outside of Ft. Bragg. We will be presenting a donation to Give2theTroops   (Give2theTroops.org). This is an organization started by a Marine wife, Andi Grant. This group gathers donations from corporations all over the country of various personal care, food, writing, and other items.  DOD does not pay for their shipment, so all funds raised go to ship care packages to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.  Your attendance at our events has allowed for us to make a substantial donation.  If anyone would like to contribute additional funds, see any rider before May 5th.

We hope you are all enjoying the new Vizeo 32 inch TV behind the bar. This TV is a gift from the riders and looks great.  We chose the Vizeo because they are an American based company.
